Former NBA MVP Steve Nash appeared as the guest speaker for the Gathering of the Clan Fundraising Breakfast for Simon Fraser University Athletics on March 3rd in Vancouver. The event took place at the Vancouver Convention Center West from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. and costed about $200 per ticket to get in. The fundraiser aimed to collect money to give future athletes scholarship money for SFU, the only Canadian university to have a place in the NCAA. Nash spoke at the event about how his life lead him to a career in basketball, and many of the hardships he had to overcome.
The eight-time NBA All-Star has been playing basketball professionally for 19 years now and did two terms with the Phoenix Suns. In addition to having a career as a basketball player, he is also the co-owner of the professional MLS soccer team, the Vancouver Whitecaps. Nash was also named one of the 100 most influential people in the world by Time magazine in 2006, and played for Canada in two FIBA tournaments. The two-time NBA Most Valuable Player is a Canadian himself, although he was born in South Africa to British parents.
