Leonard was a member of the 1976 United States Olympic boxing team and won a gold medal in the Light Welterweight division. During his epic professional boxing career he posted a 36-3 record, won world titles in five different weight divisions, and became the first boxer in history to win more than $100 million in purses.
In his memoir, The Big Fight: My Life In and Out of the Ring, disclosed that he had been a teen victim of sexual abuse by a prominent Olympic boxing coach. The book chronicles his triumphs in the ring, and his triumphs over the troubles he had with alcohol, drugs, infidelity and domestic issues. Leonard is proud to say that he encourages others to speak out about abuse and seek help.
