Earlier this month, the junior high class “L” Illinois state basketball champion held a banquet and the keynote speaker at the event was none other than Super Bowl champion Anthony Hargrove. The banquet was to honor the state title team, the 7th grade team, and the cheerleaders for the Du Quoin.
Anthony Hargrove is a native of Brooklyn, New York who played high school football for Port Charlotte High School in Florida at quarterback and free safety. Hargrove played for the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets and in 2004 was drafted by the St. Louis Rams in the third round of the NFL Draft. After three years of playing with the Rams and Buffalo Bills, Hargrove signed a contract with the New Orleans Saints and was moved inside to defensive tackle by defensive coordinator Gregg Williams. Hargrove flourished at the new position and helped the Saints get to the Super Bowl where they would ultimately win the game over the Peyton Manning led Indianapolis Colts. Hargrove is now working in Mount Vernon, Illinois at a behavioral school working with at risk high school students and recently joined the MTV Mavericks Special Olympics team as the speed and agility trainer.
Earlier this month Anthony Hargrove was in attendance and spoke at a banquet to celebrate the state championship for Du Quoin High School. The banquet had an amazing atmosphere and the attendees got a chance to speak from one champion to another with Hargrove.
