The conference is set to begin on March 2nd and will end on March 3rd. The conference takes place every other year and along with having notable keynote speakers, such as Nyad, the conference will feature inspiring and educational workshops, networking opportunities, and will honor five outstanding Alabama women.

Diana Nyad was born in New York City, New York in 1949 and moved to Fort Lauderdale, Florida in 1952 where she started swimming seriously in the 7th grade. Nyad has written four books and given many speeches to various groups focused on motivation. Nyad has set many other records other than the Cuba to Florida swim she completed one and a half years ago. In Nyad’s over 50 years of swimming she has set the Bay of Naples 22 mile race record at 8 hours and 11 minutes, swam 28 miles around the Island of Manhattan in just under 8 hours, and she swam 102 miles from North Bimini Island, Bahamas to Juno Beach, Florida in 27 and a half hours. In 2014, Nyad was announced as one of the celebrities to compete on the 18th season of Dancing With the Stars.
This upcoming March, Diana Nyad will be the keynote speaker at the 2016 Momentum Women’s Leadership Conference. The conference will look to have another great turnout and as always will give the attendees the opportunity to network as well as go through educational workshops.

Swimmer and Author Diana Nyad made a guest appearance at the bookstore Pages in Manhattan Beach, California on Jan. 7th. Nyad was signing and speaking on her memoir Find a Way. Find a Way goes over her record breaking swim from Cuba to Florida at the age of 64.

diana-dyad-swimmerLong-distance swimmer, author and broadcast journalist Diana Nyad will be the keynote speaker May 16 during the Kalamazoo Valley Community College Foundation’s Annual Opportunities for Education Dinner.

The International Women’s Sports Hall of Famer began setting world records in swimming in the 1970s. Among her achievements, she broke a 45-year-old record for circling the island of Manhattan.

Her world record, set in 1979, for swimming the 102.5 miles between the Bahamas and Florida without a wetsuit still stands. In 2003, Nyad was inducted into the International Swimming Hall of Fame.

Now in her 60s, Nyad has re-donned her swim goggles and is once again participating in extreme endurance events.
