Houston Texans’ defensive end J.J. Watt hosted his third annual fundraising 5K run at Waukesha Technical College in Wisconsin this past weekend. The event benefits the J.J. Watt Foundation, which supports after-school athletic programs for children.
The 2012 NFL Defensive Player of the Year noted that the event is growing each year and said, “We bumped up the number of applicants and the money that we’re raising is getting even higher, as well. It’s awesome to see that even though I play in a different state far away, that I can come home and the people here still support me and still support my foundation.”
Watt was drafted by the Texans in 2011 and in his very first regular season game he recorded five solo tackles and recovered a fumble. In 2012, he broke the team’s franchise record for most sacks in a single season. He finished the regular season with 81 tackles, 20.5 sacks, 23 tackles for loss, 4 forced fumbles, 2 fumble recoveries, and 16 passes defended.
