Hyun Jin Ryu EndorsementSouth Korean pitcher Hyun-Jin Ryu became the first Korean to join a U.S. team via the posting system earlier this month and has already scored his first endorsement deal. Just a few games into his MLB career and he’s become the spokesman for Hanmi Bank, a bank that specializes in the Korean-American community and has 27 branches throughout most of California.

The 26-year-old spent seven seasons with the Hanwha Eagles of Korea Professional Baseball, and was selected as an All-Star each year. He captured the KPB strikeout title for five of those years as well.

The long-time Dodgers’ broadcaster entertained with a story and remarked, “For 63 years, thanks to the sacrifices, my wife Sandy and my children, they gracefully allowed me to climb my mountain. And believe me when I tell you, receiving this award, in this particular dinner, I indeed have had a glimpse of the sea.”

The dinner serves to raise funds to help scouts who have retired or lost jobs and need financial assistance and is said to have raised almost $4 million to date.

Clayton Kershaw Charity Event Los Angeles Dodgers’ pitcher Clayton Kershaw and his wife Ellen will be returning to Africa next month for the official opening of Hope’s Home, the orphanage in Lusaka, Zambia, that they have raised money to build and sustain.

The 2012 Roberto Clemente Award-winner started “Kershaw’s Challenge,” an organization that seeks to assist at-risk children and communities in need, and the Kershaws helped to build and sustain an orphanage in Lusaka, Zambia called, “Hope’s Home,” where many of the children there suffer from diseases and infections related to HIV and AIDS.

According to the organization, “Hope’s Home will provide the love of a family that many of these children have never known. It will be a place they can dream, hope, and prepare for a bright future. They will be raised with the opportunity to realize that they are God’s children, dearly loved and cared for. The safe environment will allow them to be children—children who need to run, play, be nurtured, loved, and well fed. This home will be a beacon of hope for a generation that will be the change their country needs. We have big dreams for the children who will fill Hope’s Home. A bright future begins with the simple yet profound impact of having a place to call home.”

The good news came on Thanksgiving when Arise Africa, the organization Kershaw has partnered with, learned that they were to have 7 kids in their full custody who would be moving into the orphanage in a matter of weeks.

Along with the Kershaws, Dodgers‘ teammate Shawn Tolleson and his wife Lynley will be there for the official opening next month.
