Russell Wilson AppearanceFresh off being crowned a Super Bowl Champion for the first time in his young career, Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson is now looking to expand his success to the baseball diamond. After being selected in the minor league Rule-5 draft by the Texas Rangers in December, Wilson now plans on attending the team’s spring training camp when it opens up later this month.

Wilson was originally selected as a fourth round pick of the Colorado Rockies in the 2010 MLB Draft after starring as a dual-sport at NC State. From 2010 to 2012, prior to being selected as a third round pick of the Seahawks in 2012, he hit .238 in parts of two minor league seasons with the Rockies, but ultimately decided to leave the game to concentrate on becoming a top tier NFL quarterback.

Heading into spring training it is unclear what Wilson’s intentions are for his baseball career, but it will no doubt be revealed in good time. As one of the most marketable young athletes in sports today, Wilson currently endorses brands such as Nike, Alaska Airlines, and Larson Automotive Group. In 2012 he married his long-time girlfriend, and often references his Christian faith in press conferences, interviews, and on his personal Twitter page.

Booking-Russell-WilsonNFL quarterback Russell Wilson has proven he has good timing with his passes and where he was drafted. He has made the most of it by becoming a franchise player for the Seahawks and taking them to the playoffs during his rookie season.

Northwest University, a Christian school located in Kirkland, had good timing as well. Organizers of its third annual athletic Hall of Fame Benefit were able to procure Russell Wilson’s appearance during the summer – before most people knew that the 5-foot, 10-inch quarterback would take the league by storm.

“We got advice from (former NFL quarterback) Jeff Kemp,” said Northwest University President Joseph Castleberry. “We sent (Wilson) a fruit basket and booked him before his fame bubble popped.”

Wilson was the featured speaker during the Division II university’s event held on Friday night at the Hyatt Regency in Bellevue. The quarterback talked about everything from his faith to his goals to his record breaking rookie season. He has played for many teams in both football and baseball. He was drafted by the Colorado Rockies and played football for two universities.

Russell Wilson SpeakerThe 2012-13 NFL season has brought quite a few surprises, but by far the biggest surprise so far is the play by the rookie quarterbacks around the league. One of the biggest eye openers is Rookie Quarterback Russell Wilson who has started the season with poise and control while performing in front of thousands fans. Wilson has quickly become the talk of the NFL as he has led the Seahawks to impressive wins over the Green Bay Packers and Dallas Cowboys. His dominance has recently landed him an star role in the new Levi’s Commercial.

The new Levi’s Commercial opens your eyes to what Russell Wilson had to do to become the starting quarterback for the Seattle Seahawks. It also brings you an inside look at his family background and how he was drafted by a Major League Baseball team. Wilson also goes on to take about how he has looked past the critics and has kept focused on his one goal and that is becoming a quarterback in the NFL.

Russell Wilson did exactly that this preseason when he won the starting job over two veteran quarterbacks. In his brief time in the NFL, Wilson has already shown himself to be incredibly well-spoken and a professional on and off the field. Look for companies to jump  on the Russell Wilson bandwagon and offer him endorsements.

Russell Wilson AppearancesAt 5’11′, 203, Russell Wilson is not your prototype NFL quarterback. In February 2012, former NFL quarterback and director of the IMG Madden Football Academy Chris Weinke said of Wilson, “If he was 6-5, he’d probably be the No. 1 pick in the draft. Football wasn’t the only sport he dominated at the University of Wisconsin. Wilson also played Minor League baseball for the Tri-City Dust Devils in 2010 and the Asheville Tourists in 2011 as a second baseman. Wilson is a true athlete all around, which is why the Seahawks choose him with the 75th pick in the 3rd round.

In the off-season, Pete Carroll and the Seattle Seahawks signed former Green Bay Packers QB, Matt Flynn who threw a record setting 6 TD’s in Green Bay’s final game, as Aaron Rodgers rested for the playoffs. That game earned him a hefty 3 year, $19.5 million contract with $10 million guaranteed, but not necessarily a guarantee for the starting job. Pete Carroll also didn’t expect to see what he witnessed this preseason with his new rookie Russell Wilson, who played like a veteran, scrambling and juking all over the field. After just 3 preseason games, he named Wilson the Seahawks starting quarterback for the season opener. He plays like a smaller version of sophomore QB Cam Newton, without all the cocky attitude. Probably because Russell is a devout Christian. On his official Twitter account (@DangeRussWilson), you will find some of his favorite Bible verses.

Russell brings that much needed energy to Seattle, a football city that has never really had a superstar quarterback in the spotlight the past 20 years. They haven’t found that leader that could bring their fans, also known as the “12th Man” that much anticipated Super Bowl title. Matt Hasselbeck came close, but they’ve also had some tough years with Taravis Jackson, Seneca Wallace, Jon Kitna, Rick Mirer, Dave Kreig, Jim Zorn and Hall of Famer Warren Moon, who played 2 years with the Hawks.

I’m making a bold prediction that Russell Wilson will be the next big thing in the NFL. It’s only a matter of time before we see his demand climb for TV commercials, product endorsements, speaking engagements and autograph appearances. The Hawks get a fresh new look this year sporting a sleek neon green, dark blue jersey. By the years end, his #3 jersey will be one of the top selling in the NFL. I’m predicting a 3,200 yards passing, 700 yards rushing with 10 rushing TD season. Now let’s watch and see!
