Fresh off being crowned a Super Bowl Champion for the first time in his young career, Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson is now looking to expand his success to the baseball diamond. After being selected in the minor league Rule-5 draft by the Texas Rangers in December, Wilson now plans on attending the team’s spring training camp when it opens up later this month.
Wilson was originally selected as a fourth round pick of the Colorado Rockies in the 2010 MLB Draft after starring as a dual-sport at NC State. From 2010 to 2012, prior to being selected as a third round pick of the Seahawks in 2012, he hit .238 in parts of two minor league seasons with the Rockies, but ultimately decided to leave the game to concentrate on becoming a top tier NFL quarterback.
Heading into spring training it is unclear what Wilson’s intentions are for his baseball career, but it will no doubt be revealed in good time. As one of the most marketable young athletes in sports today, Wilson currently endorses brands such as Nike, Alaska Airlines, and Larson Automotive Group. In 2012 he married his long-time girlfriend, and often references his Christian faith in press conferences, interviews, and on his personal Twitter page.
