Three-time Cy Young Award winner Pedro Martinez has signed a book deal with Houghton Mifflin Harcourt. The publisher announced Wednesday that Martinez’s personal story of success, featuring “lively, raw stories” about the highs and lows of his time in baseball will be published next year.
Martinez, who pitched 18 years in the Major Leagues was an 8 time All-Star and 3 time Cy Young Award winner. During his career he was known as the “most dominant pitcher of his era”, amassing a 219-100 career record with a 2.93 career earned run average and 3,154 strikeouts in just 2,827 innings. In 2004 Martinez helped lead the Boston Red Sox to their first World Series title since 1918.
In addition to becoming a new author, Martinez is also pursuing a new career as a baseball analyst on TBS’s playoff coverage team. “Some of us, when we go up to the booth and look at the game down on the field, sometimes we tend to forget how difficult the game is and how uncomfortable it is to executive under pressure,” he said. Martinez hopes to never forget what it was like to be a player, and bring that to the booth as an analyst.
