Legendary Florida Gators quarterback Tim Tebow gave a speech last month at a high school sports awards ceremony to inspire the student athletes to be more than they believe, and to use their sports as a platform for their greatness. Tebow used examples from his own life on how he was able to use his football skills as a means to channel motivation and become a idol for all of his fans that looked up to him, and to be aware of how they are impacting people for the greater good. The audience listened attentively and were able to relate to the NFL player’s message of focusing on not just being an athlete, but something more than an athlete.
The 2007 Heisman Trophy winner grew up in a homeschooling environment, but eventually went to the University of Florida for his college education due to getting an athletic scholarship for the institution. He entered the 2009 NFL Draft and was selected by the Denver Broncos who had him on the roster for two seasons before getting traded to the New York Jets. In April of this year, Tebow signed a one-year contract with the Philadelphia Eagles so there is a good chance that we’ll be seeing him on the field again. The quarterback is often remembered for his iconic prayer pose after making a touchdown during games, and is also very outspoken about his faith and its importance to him.
Tebow spoke to a group of high school athletes last May to inspire them to use their talents on the field for things off of the field too. He reminded them that athletes are just meant to be heroes in sports, but should use the discipline and lessons they learn in sports to take them even further in life than they can imagine.
