Villanova basketball coach Jay Wright was the main speaker at the “HomeGrown- Lectures, Learning, Locally” series that took place at the Wayne Art Center on October 7. Wright’s talk was sponsored by The Hamilton Family Foundation and First Priority Bank, and during his talk he told the audience about what the expectations are for every player on his team and made sure to throw a few funny stories in there as well. In addition to that, the coach also talked about the athletic history of his family and shared a few personal stories to lighten the mood and make it a more personable experience. Overall it was a huge success, and the Wayne Art Center was full of happy visitors.
The Churchville, Pennsylvania native attended and graduated from Bucknell University where he played basketball and ignited his interest in coaching. After 10 years as serving as an assistant coach for teams at such universities as Rochester, Drexel, Villanova and UNLV, he landed his first head coach position at Hofstra University in 1994. By 2001 he was offered a spot as the Villanova basketball team head coach and has been there ever since. Wright has taken his team to the Sweet 16 four times, the Elite 8 twice, and to the FInal 4 one time in 2009, all of which were huge milestones for him.
The Villanova coach gave a great talk earlier this month as a part of the “HomeGrown- Lectures, Learning, Locally” series and made it a very educational and enjoyable experience for the audience.
