Sports writer, Buster Olney was born 17 February 1964 in Washington, D.C. and is a columnist for ESPN: The Magazine, ESPN.com, and covered the New York Giants and New York Yankees for The New York Times. He is also a regular analyst for the ESPN's Baseball Tonight. Olney is one of about 575 voters for the Baseball Hall of Fame.

He is one of the most prominent proponents of "traditional" baseball strategy, often referred to as small ball, in opposition to sabermetric baseball strategy, which Olney sometimes calls Moneyball strategy after the Michael Lewis book of the same name.
