Born and raised in northern Idaho, Holland developed a taste  for adventure at a young age, and that has carried him through to his career in  one of the most daring sports there is. A snowboardcross specialist, he defines  the sport's chaotic style, going all-out in every race.<br /><br />  Like the gift that keeps on giving, Holland treated everyone waiting in  anticipation to one of the greatest races of the year as he came from behind in  the final heat to win his fourth consecutive X Games gold medal in January  2009. "As far as the streak goes, I don't know, I am kind of at a loss of  words. I go into it just like any other race and I have success here,"  Holland said. "I'm just delighted, honestly, that I was able to pull it  off again." It was Holland's fifth X Games gold medal. The following  weekend, he locked in a win in front of a hometown crowd before finishing out  the season with four World Cup top 10 finishes.<br /><br />  Nate was ripping the slopes of Schweitzer Mountain in a pair of Sorels and one  of Burton's Performer Elite boards by the time he was 8. He knew he had to ride  professionally after watching Shawn Farmer and Damian Sanders launch the  legendary "fingers" of Squaw Valley in the classic snowboarding movie  "Critical Condition."
