Booking Boston Red Sox Player Appearances
The Boston Red Sox are part of Major League Baseball’s American League East division, and are based in Boston, Massachusetts playing home games at Fenway Park for 100 years in 2012. The team was established in 1901, originally called the Boston Americans, changing their name in 1908. Every home game at Fenway Park has sold out since 2003. The team won five World Series between 1903 and 1918, and then entered one of the longest championship droughts in MLB history that didn’t end until 2004.
The Red Sox have a long and storied history, with many of baseball’s most famed players being a part of the New England team, including Babe Ruth who spent six seasons there between 1914 and 1919 before being sold to the New York Yankees, reportedly to finance a Broadway play. Hall of Fame right fielder Ted Williams spent 15 seasons with the Red Sox in the ‘30s, ‘40s and ‘50s and Carl Yastrzemski spent his entire career in Boston from 1961 to 1983, taking the team to their first American League pennant in 20 years. Even pitcher Cy Young, for whom the award is named after, was a Boston player. The 1967 team was a surprise American League pennant winner, with players that included not only Yastrzemski who was named AL MVP, but Golden Glove winner George Scott, Rico Petrocelli, Tony Conigliaro and Jim Lonborg. Their next AL pennant win was in 1975, under manager Darrell Johnson and led by players like American League MVP Fred Lynn and Luis Tiant. The 1986 team had a winning season with players that included Cy Young Award winner Roger Clemens and American League Batting Champion Wade Boggs. Arguably the most exciting and dramatic season in recent history came in 2004 when they finally reached the pinnacle of success with a win in the Big Show. The team made an unprecedented comeback against the Yankees to capture the AL Championship Series and ultimately swept the St. Louis Cardinals in the World Series. Their roster included Johnny Damon, World Series MVP Manny Ramirez and pitcher Curt Schilling who will forever be known for winning game six in the ACLS against the Yankees playing on an ankle that was injured so badly his sock was soaked in blood. Today, the team is managed by Bobby Valentine and players that include shortstop Bobby Ciriaco, pitcher Clay Buchholz and third baseman Kevin Youkilis.
