Booking Oakland Athletics Player Appearances

Oakland Athletics player appearances The Oakland Athletics are a Major League Baseball team in the American League West division, based in Oakland, California and playing home games at the O.co, or Oakland, Coliseum as it’s often called. The Athletics were established over a century ago in 1901, but have gone through a number of changes over the decades. They were originally the Philadelphia Athletics, and became the Kansas City Athletics in 1955. In 1968, they moved to the East Bay Area of California and have been playing in the same Oakland location ever since.

Connie Mack was the iconic owner and manager of the Athletics, the longest serving manager in baseball history, during the club’s first 50 seasons. The team became the World Series Champions for the first time in 1910. After moving to Oakland, the Athletics first big success came with a World Series title in 1972. With Dick Williams managing, the team had exceptional players like third baseman Sal Bando, shortstop Bert Campaneris and right fielder Reggie Jackson. Catfish Hunter, Rollie Fingers and Vida Blue were three of the incredible pitchers on the mound for the green and gold. Gene Tenace, catcher and first baseman, became the World Series MVP. The team went on to win a total of three consecutive World Series pennants, but it took 15 years for them to reach the pinnacle of success once again. The 1989 team was managed by Tony LaRussa and saw extraordinary players like relief pitcher Dennis Eckersley, the famed “Bash Brothers” - Mark McGwire and Jose Canseco, record base stealer Rickey Henderson, third baseman Carney Lansford and shortstop Walt Weiss. In 1990, they won the American League pennant but since that time they have not returned to the World Series. In 2001, their 102 wins was the most ever by a team that won the Wild Card, and they accomplished that under manager Art Howe, with players that included first baseman Jason Giambi and outfielder Eric Byrnes. Today, the team’s general manager is Billy Beane, with the team since 1998, and they are managed by Bob Melvin. Leading players include pitcher Bartolo Colon, catcher Kurt Suzuki and outfielder Josh Reddick.
