Andrew McCutchen CampFort Meade native Andrew McCutchen returned to his roots yet again on Saturday, February 1, hosting his 3rd Annual Raising The Standard Baseball Camp at Fort Meade Dixie Youth Baseball Complex in Fort Meade, Florida. Coming off a stellar 2013 season in which he brought home the National League MVP Award, McCutchen still remembers where he comes from and strives to give back to his hometown city. “I’ve created a lot of history here, and it’s always great to comeback here and pay my respects,” said McCutchen.

Over 180 kids showed up to the camp, some from as far as New York City, just to have the opportunity to learn the game from their favorite player. Dawning #22 Pirates jerseys, kids participated in drills like hitting and defense, all trying to emulate their local hero. Before the camp ended, the humble star spoke to the players and made sure every kid that enjoyed the camp didn’t leave without a smile and an autograph.

Andrew McCutchen is one of the top all around players in the game today. Since making his major league debut in 2009 he has earned three NL All-Star selections to go along with two Silver Slugger Awards and one Gold Glove Award. In 2013 he hit .317 with 21 home runs, 84 RBI, and 28 stolen bases, leading the Pirates to the playoffs for the first time in 21 years and earning him the 2013 National League MVP Award.
