Arian Foster and Larry FitzgeraldArizona Cardinals wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald and Houston Texans running back Arian Foster were a part of a discussion panel at Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts on Wednesday, April 23. During their visit to Harvard the two NFL stars gave two talks, one at the business school that was supposed to focus on social media, but quickly veered into a discussion on race, and another to undergraduates in historic Harvard Yard, which was introduced as “The Modern Black Male Athlete.” Both talks were attended by a standing-room only crowd.

Foster, who drew a big crowd during his talk about social media, spoke candidly about his use of the social network Twitter, saying he uses the platform to criticize the NCAA and educate his 437,000 Twitter followers on the issues facing players today. Both he and Fitzgerald also spoke about race in athletics today and the issue that came about as a result of the post game interview by Seattle Seahawks star Richard Sherman, who was also in attendance at the event.

In the end both athletes were candid on their views and produced a solid and thoughtful viewpoint on the issues facing athletes today involving race, social networking, pay for college athletes, and fans being informed on the issues. As representatives of their teams and the National Football League, both players left the students at Harvard with valuable knowledge that they can put to use in their fields of study and in life.
