Brendon Ayanbadejo AgentBaltimore Ravens‘ linebacker Brendon Ayanbadejo has been one of the NFL’s most vocal supporters of gay rights and following his team’s Super Bowl victory last month, he’s taken his fight up a notch or two.

On Tuesday morning in New York City, he appeared as a featured panelist at EA’s LGBT Full Spectrum Event, a summit dedicated to creating an inclusive environment for gay and lesbians as both players and creators of video games, reiterating his commitment to the fight for equality.

Ayanbadejo remarked, “[LGBT equality] is the hardest fight I’ve ever had to face in my life and I’ve seen my fair share of adversity growing up in the projects, growing up on welfare, a lot of gang violence. Basically having nothing then coming full circle to where I am today. I’ve seen a lot of adversity but this is definitely the hardest fight because a lot of people don’t want to change.”

On Wednesday, the 36-year-old made an appearance on MSNBC’s “The Ed Show,” and said he believes there will be an openly gay player in the NFL within the next year or two. He commented, “I feel like we’re going to see our Jackie Robinson, our pioneer for gay rights and equality and we’re going to be there to support that player and make sure he has a support group around him.”

Until that comes to fruition, and likely beyond, this is going to be a hot topic around the league.
