Bernard-King-FeeBernard King, the former Knicks star and one of the game’s all-time great scores, has been elected to the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame. It was announced Monday morning at the Hall’s annual Final Four announcement.

King, a four-time N.B.A. All-Star, had to wait six times before he received a call Wednesday that he would be enshrined in the Hall of Fame. King was one of the best scorers in the league in the 1980s and played his best for the Knicks. He averaged more than 22 points a game in his 15-year career. In the 1984 playoffs, King almost single-handedly led the Knicks to a series victory over Larry Bird and the Boston Celtics in which he averaged 34.8 points a game. King, 56, was named the league’s comeback player of the year in 1981 after he return to form after a knee injury.

“I would certainly love to say it was a dream, but you can’t dream of something like this,” King said Monday. “This is great day. I’d like to thank the Hall of Fame and the committee for recognizing my basketball life.”
