Bobby Cox Speaking FeeFormer third baseman for the New York Yankees and manager for the Atlanta Braves Bobby Cox showed up at the Chris Hammond Youth Foundation Golf Tournament in early June to kick off the event with a keynote speech. During his talk, Cox recalled on a time that he really needed some encouragement and this was part of the drive that made him so readily excited to attend and speak at this event. The function was designed to benefit children who are facing tough times and it was kicked off with a silent auction gala and then followed by a golf tournament later on. Cox didn’t play in the golf tournament, but he gladly participated as the keynote speaker as he is a good friend of the host, Chris Hammond.

The Oklahoma native originally was signed on by the Los Angeles Dodgers, but was quickly traded to the New York Yankees where he played for just two seasons. The reason he left playing baseball was unfortunately due to bad knees and a lot of pain, so he decided to stay with the sport by eventually taking over for Dave Bristol as the Braves’ manager. After three years he left to manage the Blue Jays for three years before returning to Atlanta for another 10, so that is why many fans identify him with that team. The four-time Manager of the Year retired in 2010 with two World Series Champion wins under his belt and still currently resides in Georgia.

Cox spoke at the Chris Hammon Youth Foundation Golf Tournament to kick off the event, and it was just as wonderful for the former manager as it was for the audience who got to listen to some of his experiences and wisdom.
