Kathrine Switzer Speaking FeeThe first woman to run the Boston Marathon, Kathrine Switzer, is set to give the keynote speech at the Berlin’s Women’s Half Marathon Women’s Inspiration Dinner taking place on September 25 in the KI Convention Center Ballroom. If there is anyone who would be able to inspire the women at this event, it would be her as she has shown a huge amount of adversity and strength in her accomplishments of being a pioneer female runner in Boston. She is predicted to talk about how she trained for the event, both mentally and physically, as well as discuss all of the obstacles that she had to overcome prior and during running the world famous marathon. Switzer has been known to be a very powerful and inspiring speaker, so there is no doubt that she will be able to captivate the audience’s attention and teach them a thing or two.

The German-born runner grew up in a military family and went to college at Syracuse University where she got both her bachelors and masters degrees by 1972. However, 1967 was the first Boston Marathon that she signed up for under an ambiguous name and after completing the race she was not recognized as doing so because women were not allowed to sign up for it. Switzer put up a fight that made national news, and despite women getting barred from all AAU races she continued to strive for the change. By 1972 the rules were finally changed and she was able to enter the Boston Marathon for the first time legitimately, alongside other women. She made a remarkable difference in the running world and to this day continues to share her story to inspire other women to live a life without limits.

Switzer will be speaking at the Berlin Women’s Half Marathon Women’s Inspiration dinner happening this fall, and she will get an opportunity to share what she learned with all the runners participating in the half marathon.
