Brad Stevens AgentBoston Celtics head coach Brad Stevens returned to where his successful coaching career began on Saturday, May 10 to receive an Honorary Doctorate from Butler University. The Doctorate, which he received during Butler’s spring commencement ceremony, recognized Steven’s contributions to the university and its basketball program.

“We didn’t have a formal opportunity to thank Brad or celebrate the many contributions he made to the Butler community,” Butler President James M. Danko said in a statement released by Butler last month. “So for us, tho swill be that chance. Brad was a dedicated member of the Butler community for more than a dozen years, and still maintains close ties to the University. It is wholly appropriate that we honor him at Commencement with his first Butler degree.”

Stevens joined the Butler basketball program in 200 and spent 13 seasons with the team prior to being hired by the Boston Celtics last summer. After taking over the Butler team in 2007 he led the Bulldogs to a record of 30-5, which made him the third-youngest coach in NCAA Division I history to win 30 or more games. In 2010 and 2011 he led the Bulldogs to consecutive National Championship games, making him the youngest coach to lead a team to consecutive Final Four and Championship game appearances.
