Legendary University of North Carolina Coach Roy Williams will be speaking at the 2015 Gaston County Sports Hall of Fame which is taking place on June 22 at the Gastonia Conference Center. Ticket information will be announced at a later time. This is bound to be a exciting and entertaining event, as several winning coaches before Williams has been the speaker for this particular award ceremony. Other big names such as Joe Paterno, Paul Bryant, and Bobby Ross have been the keynoters over the past several years. It is one of the biggest honors in the sporting world that anyone can be either a speaker for or a inductee.
Williams is the first basketball national champion to speak at the event. The five-time national Coach of the Year was also named his conference’s Coach of the Year nine times, so he has accomplished quite a lot. During his first 10 years with UNC, he was the assistant coach for the team before going on to be the head coach at Kansas, and then later returned to North Carolina as the head coach where he still is today. One of the greatest things for WIlliams to look back on in his career is how many of his players made it into the NBA, which a couple dozen of them have so far.
Williams will be the main speaker for the June 22 awards ceremony for the Gaston County Sports Hall of Fame, and it should be a fun event especially since the UNC coach is still involved with the sport in present day.
