DerrickColeman SpeakerSeattle Seahawks fullback Derrick Coleman recently appeared in a Duracell commercial that showed how he was able to overcome his disability to become the first legally deaf NFL player. The inspiring ad touched everyone’s heart and caught everyone’s attention, especially the hearing impaired 9-year-olds Erin and Rily Kovalcik, who wrote him an adorable letter letting him know all the ways he inspired them.

Touched by the letter, Coleman responded by writing a letter of his own, telling the twin sisters how great it was to hear from them and inviting them to play football and sports with him if they are ever in the Seattle area. He also told them that he had faith in them, and it was great to have them as friends because of what they had in common.

As if the story cannot get much more touching, Coleman then took it a step further and decided to surprise the twin sisters while they were being interviewed about receiving a letter from him. After smiles and hugs, Coleman then gave them tickets to the Super Bowl, so they could watch him and the Seahawks defeat the Broncos and be crowned Super Bowl Champions. It truly is a story with more than one happy ending.

Coleman, who has been legally deaf since he was three years old, starred at UCLA before being signed by the Minnesota Vikings as a non-drafted free agent in 2012. After being waived by the Vikings he was signed by the Seattle Seahawks and has since become a valued member of the newly crowned Super Bowl Champions.
