Kerry Wood AppearanceFormer Chicago Cubs’ pitcher Kerry Wood retired from Major League Baseball just last May and is continuing his frequent charitable efforts throughout the community.

On Friday evening, January 18, Wood received a ton of support at his crowded Woody’s Winter Warm-Up fundraiser held at Harry Caray’s Tavern at Navy Pier in Chicago. His second annual benefit drew a number of revered athletes, including Ernie Banks.

Wood was the NL Rookie of the Year in 1998 and spent the majority of his 14-year MLB career with the Cubs. According to a spokeswoman for the Wood Family Foundation, more than $100,000 was raised at Friday’s fundraiser which will serve to help Chicago area youth.
