A Celebrity Booking Agency

Lynette WoodardOlympic gold medalist and former Globetrotter Lynette Woodard stopped Hoops for Hope, a one day youth basketball clinic, to talk to the kids attending the camp about never giving up on their dreams. This sports camp raises funds and sends all of its proceeds to a rescue home in Kenya called Cindi’s Hope, and a handful of coaches volunteer to be a part of it. Woodard told the young athletes her story about how she worked extremely hard to be good at basketball even when her brother wouldn’t let her play with him and their friends, and how she used that drive to become skilled at the game on her own. The attendees listened to her with undivided attention and set them up for a successful day of practice that day.

As a child, she had always dreamed of being on the Globetrotters despite it being a then all-male team. Eventually she got good enough to play in high school and college leagues and landed herself on the 1984 USA team at the Olympics, from which she brought home the gold medal. After returning home from the Olympic games, Woodard’s intuition told her to keep training regardless. This conveniently set her up for the first year that the Globetrotters would become a co-ed team in 1985, when she became the very first female member of the squad. The five-time gold medalist was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield, Massachusetts in 2004 and the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame in 2005.

Woodard stopped by the Hoops for Hope basketball day camp this summer to talk to kids about perseverance and never giving up on their dreams. She was the perfect figure to talk to them that day and was especially encouraging to the girls who she dared to test their boundaries.
