Former NBA Star guard Spud Webb will be traveling to Bluefield, West Virginia on April 27th to be the keynote speaker for the Bluefield State College Foundation Dinner. The big event begins at 6 p.m., and tickets are $62.50 and include a meet and greet session with Webb in addition to the dinner. The time with Webb will take place for an hour before he hits the stage, and people are welcome to reserve a eight-seat table for a donation of just $500. BSC Athletic Director John Lewis worked hard to secure Webb for this event, and is hoping to get the college’s image out there and increase the student body this fall to their goal of 1,529 enrolled learners.
The Dallas, Texas native has been inspired by basketball his entire life and started to play competitively by the time he was in the seventh grade. He made big strides in high school, and eventually was named the 1983 NJCAA- ALl-American by the National Junior College Athletic Association. Webb earned a scholarship to North Carolina State University and continued to excel at his sport. He entered the 1985 NFL Draft where he was picked in the fourth round as the 87th overall pick by the Detroit Pistons. Over his career he also played with the Rhode Island Gulls, Atlanta Hawks, Sacramento Kings, Minnesota Timberwolves, Orlando Magic and Idaho Stampede.
