Ben Wallace Speaking FeeFormer Virginia Union University star Ben Wallace was inducted into the Virginia Sports Hall of Fame during a ceremony at the Virginia State Capitol in Richmond on Tuesday, January 20, 2015. During the ceremony he was honored for his decorated career at Virginia Union and for his outstanding play in the NBA from 1996 to 2012.

During Wallace’s time at VUU he was a standout performer, averaging 13.4 points and 10 rebounds during his career and earning NCAA Division II first team All-American honors as a senior in 1996 after helping his team to a 28-3 overall record and a berth in the NCAA Division II Final Four. Although he was heralded for his quiet nature and mature work ethic as a college player, he still credits VUU for helping him become the man he is today.

“I think the biggest thing that happened to me coming to Virginia Union was the fact that I started to grow up and become a man,” said Wallace.

He went on to play 16 seasons in the NBA with the Washington Bullets, Orlando Magic, Detroit Pistons, Chicago Bulls, and Cleveland Cavaliers. During that span he helped Detroit to an NBA Championship in 2004 and accumulated 6,254 points, 10,482 rebounds and 2,137 blocked shots. Since his retirement he has enjoyed spending time at home with his wife and family.
