Former NFL coach Dick Vermeil has been announced as the keynote speaker for this year’s Nebraska Coaches Association clinic that is happening on July 25. It will be a fun way to start integrating football back into everyone’s lives before the full season kicks off again this fall, and fans from all around the local area will be thrilled to see one of the league’s best-retired coaches. The 80-year old sports pro is expected to share some exciting stories from his days in the NFL as well as some tips for those who are attending with the hopes of fine-tuning their coaching skills. The Calistoga, California native went to San Jose State University and graduated in 1959. From there, he took his coaching career to Hillsdale High School where he was in charge of the football team for two years before jumping into college sports. After spending some time at the Napa Junior College and Stanford sports programs, he managed to land an assistant coaching job with the Los Angeles Rams which he served in from 1971 to 1973. Over the course of his career, he also got to coach the team at UCLA, the Philadelphia Eagles, the St. Louis Rams, and finally the Kansas City Chiefs with whom he stayed with for the last four seasons of his professional coaching years before retiring in 2005.
Vermeil has been announced as the speaker for this year’s Nebraska Coaches Association clinic that’s happening later this July. It will be a great opportunity for them to hear and jot down notes from a man with some exceptional experience on the sport.
