Former NFL player Matt Birk was this year’s Gold Garden Gala keynote speaker which took place at the Naples Botanical Garden on February 18th. The evening also hosted special guests from the YMCA who participated in the 2016 Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro and even brought home gold medals. There also was a silent auction that included lots of different items including several luxurious vacations. Birk was sure to discuss the many exciting and challenging experiences that he went through during his time in the NFL as well as how he was able to accomplish such grandiose goals.
Birk was picked up by the Minnesota Vikings during the 1998 NFL Draft, where he spent 10 years with the team and then went to the Baltimore Ravens for another three before retirement. Even though he has left playing football, the six-time Pro Bowl athlete is still heavily involved in the league as he was hired to be the NFL director of football development in July of last year. Birk’s passion for the sport is one that keeps him going with it, and even though he has hung up his cleats he is still changing the football community with his fantastic business skills.
Birks spoke at this year’s Gold Garden Gala in Naples and the event was a huge success. Many people attended, donated, and participated in the silent auction which proceeds benefitted local scholarships.
