Former NFL quarterback Doug Flutie was the keynote speaker for the awards at the Sunrise Theatre in Fort Pierce in Melbourne, Australia on May 22. He told the audience to go out and find the things that motivate them, as this is a key to having a very successful and fulfilling career. In addition to that, he also shared stories about his exciting career and what it was like to be on some of the most watched fields and stadiums in the world. Some of the words that Flutie left with the crowd was that he wanted them to never give up on their dreams and this will allow everyone to know what they have on the inside of themselves.
The Manchester, Maryland native started playing football after his family moved to Florida and he got enrolled at Hoover Junior High School. He helped take his team to two Brevard County Championships, by the time he graduated high school he was an All-League performer in three sports: basketball, football, and baseball. Flutie attended Boston College and played football there from 1981 through 1984, and during his senior year he was even awarded the Heisman Trophy for that year. Due to his great collegiate success in sports, he immediately took a deal and signed with the USFL months before the annual NFL Draft, which because of this he was selected in the 1tth round by the Los Angeles Rams. By the time he retired in 2005, Flutie had played for the Chicago Bears, New England Patriots, Buffalo Bills, San Diego Chargers, and for two teams in the CFL.
Flutie recently showed up to speak at this year’s awards ceremony at the Sunrise Theater in Melbourne, Australia, and it was a fantastic experience for all who got to attend.
