The Louisiana native was a star high school football player that went on to play at the University of Louisiana-Lafayette for all four years of his college career. At the time of his graduation, Delhomme had broken records and was the school’s all-time passing leader in yards and touchdowns. He entered the 1997 NFL draft but went unselected, however later that year he signed on with the New Orleans Saints as a free agent. The quarterback stayed in New Orleans with the team until 2002 before signed with the Carolina Panthers in 2003. After six years with the Panthers, Delhomme was briefly with the Cleveland Browns and Houston Texans before retiring in 2011.

Delhomme spoke at this year’s December graduation ceremony for his alma mater, the University of Louisiana-Lafayette and emphasized just how essential it is for a person to get their education. This was a great send off for the graduating class to hear from someone who had been in their shoes right at the same university.
