Former Baltimore Ravens cornerback Domonique Foxworth has been chosen to be the commencement speaker or the Spring 2015 class for the University of Maryland undergraduates. Foxworth is one of the rew retired athletes out there that still feels the need to continue his education, as he himself is going back to school for his Master’s degree right now. Foxworth was interviewed a couple of years ago by the Huffington Post and mentioned that he was disappointed that he hadn’t been invited to speak at a commencement because he had a lot to tell people, so he was enthusiastic to get the opportunity this year to do so. The 2005 Pepsi NFL Rookie of the Week hopes to shed a small bit of influence on some of these student’s big day, and plans on telling them that while there will be setbacks in life they are not always make or break situations.
The British-born football player is a native of Oxford, England but moved to the United States when he was just in kindergarten. He was selected by the Denver Broncos in the 2005 NFL Draft, but only stayed with them for two years before going to the Falcons for one more, and then the Baltimore Ravens for his final two seasons in professional football. Foxworth is very passionate about education and hopes to convey some of that enthusiasm to this year’s University of Maryland grads.
The UM alum is very much looking forward to his 15 minute speech on May 21, and he is sure to be a hit with the students as he was a player while many of them were in their beginning years of their university education.
