Jim Carr SpeakerFormer Rutgers University men’s basketball coach Jim Carr lost his son Brayden last year at the age of just two years old.

Since then, Carr and his wife Natalie established the Brayden Carr foundation in order to support different community organizations that help children. Today, the foundation is conducting its second annual coaches clinic at Rutgers after last year’s smashing debut drew 500 attendees and raised $100,000.

Friday’s event feature Florida’s Billy Donovan, Indiana’s Tom Crean, Cincinnati’s Mick Cronin, former NBA coach Stan Van Gundy, ESPN analyst Fran Fraschilla and NBA assistant coach Kevin Eastman as guest speakers lined up for the clinic at the Louis Brown Athletic Center in Piscataway.

Carr noted, “We’re also focused on directly helping parents and helping kids affected by seizures,” adding, “We’ve posted stuff on our website (www.braydencarrfoundation.org) and had people apply for humanitarian aid. We also awarded our first college scholarship this year.”

In addition, Carr says, “Next year our plan is to expand it: do one in the metropolitan area and one in New England,” Jim Carr said. “Eventually we’d like to have one in Florida also.”

As of early this week more than 300 coaches had signed up, and Carr is hoping for a last-minute push. With his presence and establishment of this much-needed foundation, it’s likely to help the cause in a number of ways, including increasing fundraising efforts.
