Former Toronto Maple Leafs defenceman Al Iafrate was the honored guest speaker for this year’s Annual Wallaceburg Sports Hall of Fame dinner that took place on January 27th. The tickets to the function were a low price of $65 per person and many people showed up to see one of the NHL’s favorite hockey players. In addition to that, several athletes were recognized for their talents in various sports as they were inducted into the Sports Hall of Fame of Wallaceburg. Iafrate took the time to share some personal stories about his time as a professional hockey player and shared some words of inspiration. The audience was pleased to hear his talk and share the time with a fantastic athlete.
The Dearborn, Michigan native started playing hockey during his youth, and eventually entered the 1984 NHL Entry Draft where he was selected as the fourth overall pick by the Toronto Maple Leafs. Over his 12 year career, he played 799 NHL games and scored 152 goals and had 311 assists. Other than the Maple Leafs, Iafrate also played for the Washington Capitals, Boston Bruins, and San Jose Sharks. These days, he is the lead consultant for shooting and hockey sticks for the Columbus Blue Jackets team.
Iafrate was a speaker at this year’s Wallaceburg Sports Hall of Fame dinner that happened toward the end of last month. It was a fun and exciting experience, as well as a memorable one.
