Kayla Harrison captured the first gold medal in judo for the United States, but her amazing accomplishment did not come without a fight, both personally and professionally. Considering what Harrison went through, makes her achievement rather extraordinary after what she’s had to face in her young life.

The 22-year-old overcame abuse by a former coach on her way to Olympic gold, and she had to battle depression as well as suicidal thoughts to get there. Harrison revealed recently that her first coach, who was her mentor and trainer from the ages of 13 to 16 years old, had sexually abused her. Daniel Doyle is now serving a 10-year Federal prison sentence, but the experience left the young athlete nearly broken.

Following her amazing victory, American judo coach Jimmy Pedro remarked, “This week we had our best judo performance ever.”

The reality is that Harrison is the best on the team. She’s also rather good-natured and has an incredible story of courage to tell. One that is said to be “jarring even for a sports press that can be nearly unhinged in its pursuit of the next inspirational tale.”

Harrison’s story makes her a very good candidate for Speaking Engagements as well as Sponsorships, and she will be working with the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, speaking out about sexual abuse and efforts to prevent it.

Corporations in Harrison’s local New England area, like Gillette and Dunkin’ Donuts may also be considering her for Product Endorsement Deals and a Sponsorship.
