Thurman Thomas SpeakerEarlier this month the annual DSBN International Concussion Summit was held at Niagara Falls. The summit featured none other than hall of fame running back Thurman Thomas, who helped the Buffalo Bills and their hurry up offense win the AFC Championship game four years in a row. The summit had multiple speakers who spoke to coaches and educators about concussions from experts in the field.

Thurman Thomas is a Houston, Texas native who attended Oklahoma State University where he was a teammate of fellow hall of famer Barry Sanders. After three years as a starter at OSU, Thomas finished with an amazing 897 rushes for over 4,500 yards and 43 touchdowns. After having his number retired at OSU, one of only three, Thomas was selected in the second round of the 1988 NFL Draft by the Buffalo Bills. Thomas made five straight Pro-Bowls starting in 1989, led the league in rushing in 1990, 1991, and 1993, and even won an MVP in 1991 after gaining over 2,000 all-purpose yards. After his retirement after finishing his 13 year career, with his final season being with the Miami Dolphins, Thomas holds the Bills all-time rushing record with nearly 12,000 yards and ranks 12th in the history of the NFL. Thomas is also a part of a small group of NFL running backs who were obvious duel threats, just as Thomas was, with over 400 receptions and 10,000 yards rushing. In February of 2007 Thomas was elected into the Pro Football Hall of Fame and today still lives in Buffalo, New York.

Earlier this month Thurman Thomas was the keynote speaker at the annual DSBN International Concussion Summit held in Niagara Falls. Thomas spoke mainly about the concussion and CTE issue that is taking the country and sports by storm. The event had an amazing turnout and gave attendees the chance to hear from a former football star who gave expert advice to educators and coaches about the danger of concussions.
