Hall of Fame third baseman Mike Schmidt is traveling to Berks County this winter to be the keynote speaker at the Law Foundation of Berks County and PICPA Reading Chapter 10th Annual Holiday Benefit Luncheon. The event will take place on December 1st at the Crowne Plaza Reading in Wyomissing, Pennsylvania. This isn’t the first time that Schmidt has made it to the event, and it will be an extra special visit due to the fact that he was also the first-ever speaker for this luncheon a decade ago. Now that we are over halfway finished with this year, it will give people something to look forward to during this upcoming holiday and winter season.
The Dayton, Ohio native started playing baseball during his teenage years at Fairview High School in 1967. Shortly after graduation, he went on to attend Ohio University in Athens where he led the Bobcats baseball team to the College World Series in 1970. He then entered the 1971 MLB Draft where he was selected in the 2nd round as the 30th overall pick by the Phillies. Schmidt spent 17 years in the MLB and stayed in Philadelphia for the entire duration of his career. In his professional years, he managed to be a 12-time All-Star player, a World Series champion, and even a 10-time Gold Glove Award winner. He officially retired from the diamond in the spring of 1989.
Schmidt will be traveling to Berks County, Illinois this winter to take part in the 10th Annual Holiday Benefit Luncheon that was put on by the Law Foundation of Berks County and PICPA Reading Chapter. It will be a lot of fun and very informative, so be sure to stay tuned for when tickets become available.
