Johnny Bench (2)Hall of Famer Johnny Bench delivered a very inspirational keynote speech at the International BoatBuilders’ Exhibition & Conference breakfast on September 13th in Louisville, Kentucky. Not only was it a very good informational talk, but it also was incredibly entertaining for the audience to hear about his stories as a professional MLB player. In addition to that, he discussed what it was like for him to grow up in Oklahoma and how he managed to discover his true calling for baseball at the young age of 17. However, the main focus of the keynote speech was a lesson put together by Bench called “Vowels of Success” that describes how people can use this framework to get on their own road to achievement.

The 14-time All-Star player started out playing baseball in high school and was encouraged by his father to become a catcher in order to make it to the pros faster. Bench was drafted to the Cincinnati Reds as the 36th overall pick in the 1965 amateur draft. He played two years for minor league teams before being called up by the Reds to make his MLB debut in 1967. The 10-time Golden Glove Award winner spent his entire baseball career with Cincinnati and retired in 1983 for good. After leaving the sport as a player, Bench as still remained active in the sports community and has even taken the time to write a book and work with charities.

Bench gave a fantastic speech at this year’s International BoatBuilders’ Exhibition & Conference breakfast event that happened in September. The audience was happy to get such a motivating and entertaining talk and it is sure to be one that they remember for years to come.
