Recently inducted Hall of Fame pitcher Tom Glavine has been named the keynote speaker at the Bradley Sunrise Rotary Club’s annual fundraising gala scheduled for June 6, 2015. The event will serve to raise funds for local charitable organizations and will include dinner and an auction to go along with Glavine’s speech.
“Tom Glavine is a classy guy,” said Sunrise Rotary Club president Keith Munford. “We have a good guy coming to be our gala speaker.”
A good guy, and a great ball player. Tom Glavine pitched 22 years in the big leagues and amassed 305 wins to go along with 10 All-Star appearances, two NL Cy Young Awards, four Silver Slugger Awards as a pitcher, and a World Series Championship in 1995. Considered one of the best left handed pitchers of all-time, Glavine used finesse and smarts to outwit batters and overmatch them with his wide array of pitches and pinpoint location.
In 2014 Glavine was voted into the Baseball Hall of Fame during his first year of eligibility, showing just how admired he is for his contributions to the game and to the league over the course of his career. Since his retirement he’s been involved in several successful business ventures and lent his hand to many charitable causes. In 2011 he became a member of the broadcast team for the Atlanta Braves, and is highly regarded as one of the most knowledgeable and respected color commentators in baseball.
