NBA star Dwight Howard, who was acquired by the L.A. Lakers in a trade with the Orlando Magic earlier this month, has traveled to the Far East as part of his annual promotional tour for Adidas, the shoe and apparel company he endorses.

Just two weeks earlier, the six-time NBA All-Star withdrew from hosting a kid’s basketball camp in Florida as he was recovering from an injury and needed time to rehabilitate his surgically repaired back.

Adidas officials said in a statement that Howard was cleared to travel “just last week.” They also noted, “We are excited that Dwight is now able to participate in fan and community events as he continues to prepare for the NBA season. Dwight is an amazing athlete and outstanding partner with fans around the world.”

Although Howard’s cancellation of the basketball camp sparked rumors that he simply didn’t want to face fans in Central Florida again after asking for the trade to southern California, the 26-year-old center had never missed day of his camp before and always donated his proceeds to local charities.

His trip to China is reportedly shorter than his trips in the past, and it’s said that he will continue his training regimen while he’s overseas. He’s already drawn large crowds of screaming fans and photographers, certainly doing his job well for Adidas.
