Cancer survivor and former professional cyclist Lance Armstrong has been announced as the keynote speaker for the “Tour of Flanders Business Academy presents sports heroes”. The Tour of Flanders is one of the most popular one-day classic races in the world, as it combines long stretches of cobblestones and has about a dozen steep hills. Armstrong has never won this particular race, but he is expected to share some of his own experiences in other races that he has competed in, and won, around the world. It will be an exciting event for racers and fans of the sport alike.
The Plano, Texas native began competing as a triathlon athlete from the age of 16 onward, and in 1992 he began to cycle professionally for the Motorola Team. He is most known for winning seven consecutive Tour de France races between the years of 1999 and 2005, but unfortunately had the titles stripped away due to a doping violation. Armstrong is also a survivor of testicular cancer, which inspired him to start the Lance Armstrong Foundations for fellow survivors of the disease.
Armstrong will be the keynote speaker for the event titled “Tour of Flanders Business Academy presents sports heroes” and will no doubt give a memorable talk about life, cycling, and perseverance.
