Former MLB Player and MLB Analyst John Kruk has been announced as the featured speaker for this year’s The Southwest Florida Sports Awards event that is set to happen on May 23rd at the Barbara B. Mann Performing Arts Hall. At this prestigious function, one player of the year will be presented along with a few other honors. Kruk spent so many years in the professional sports world and is expected to share a lot of his own experiences in the big leagues, and will no doubt have some kind words for this year’s winner and honorees.
The Charleston, West Virginia native started playing baseball while attending Keyser High School during his teen years. Kruk was drafted by the San Diego Padres in 1981, however, he didn’t make his MLB debut until the spring of April 1986. He stayed with San Diego for three seasons before moving to Philadelphia and joining the Phillies for five years and ending his career with one last year with the Chicago White Sox. After his years as a player came to an end, Kruk went on to write a book and take several small acting roles. He also served as an analyst on Baseball Tonight in 2004.
Kruk is scheduled to be the featured speaker for The Southwest Florida Sports Awards this coming May, and it is sure to be a memorable time for all of the inductees and their family members. He no doubt will have some exciting baseball stories to share, and lots of words of wisdom for the aspiring athletes in the area.
