Eric BledsoeNBA point guard Eric Bledsoe was back in his hometown of Birmingham, Alabama on Monday, August 4 to host his first youth basketball camp at Bartow Arena on the campus of UAB. The camp was filled with youngsters eager to learn from their hometown hero, and Bledsoe was even seen running through drills and playing games with the over 120 boys and girls that showed up to participate.

“This is where I grew up, born and raised,” Bledsoe said. “I never get tired of coming home.”

As far as the inspiration behind hosting his first camp, Bledsoe said it’s all about giving back.

“When I was growing up, we didn’t have nothing like this,” he said. “I just wanted to give back. As far as popularity, I’m not worried about that. I just want these kids to have something to look forward to.”

A four year NBA veteran,Eric Bledsoe stared at the University of Kentucky before joining the Los Angeles Clippers as a first round pick in 2010. After spending his first three years as a role player with the Clippers he joined the Phoenix Suns in 2013 and really came into his own, averaging 17.7 points, 5.5 assists, and 4.7 rebounds last season. Currently Bledsoe is a restricted free-agent, with high hopes that his excellent play in 2013-14 will be rewarded with a long-term contract heading into next season.
