NBA Hall of Famer Magic Johnson participated in a fundraising dinner on September 23 from 6:30pm-8:30pm at the Holiday Inn Gateway Centre in Flint, Michigan. The committee of the event set a goal to raise $250,000 for their local school system, and Johnson pledged to donate a matching $250,000 as well. The Flint School District also seized the opportunity to give out as much information as possible on how they will be using the funds to make sure that students are getting the best and most nutritious food possible.
The Lansing, Michigan native is widely considered one of the greatest basketball players of all time and is a five-time NBA Champion and three-time NBA Most Valuable Player. Magic Johnson’s basketball career highlights also include an Olympic Gold Medal in 1992 as a member of the United States “Dream Team”, a NCAA Basketball Championship, and a High School Basketball Championship. After his basketball career was complete, Magic Johnson continued winning ways in the world of business. Mr. Johnson operates Magic Johnson Enterprises, a company worth nearly $750,000 and is part of an investment group that owns Major League Baseball’s Los Angeles Dodgers, which was purchased in 2012 for a then-record $2 billion.
Johnson showed up in Flint, MI at the end of last month to participate in a fundraiser for the Flint School District, and not only did they collect a lot of funds, but Johnson himself donated quite a bit of his own money too.
