Former NFL player Lee Rouson visited the McMichael Youth Football Camp this summer in Mayoden, North Carolina to share some of his wisdom and experience with sports. The kids who got to share some time with the NFL great were excited to see him during their camp a couple of months ago, which took place on July 27th. One of the main messages the Rouson delivered during his talk to the children was that learning to overcome obstacles is a key to being successful in life. Even though his time with the campers was brief, his words will likely resonate with them for a long time to come.
The Elizabeth City, North Carolina native began playing football in high school and eventually attended the University of Colorado where he earned the Freshman All Big Eight team honors. While playing for the Buffaloes, he also made 4th on the list of their all-time leading rushers and was an honorable mention for the All Big Eight Player of the Year. He entered the 1985 NFL Draft and was selected by the New York Giants in the 8th round, and even though he didn’t get to play much his first season he made up for it the following year. After five seasons with the New York Giants, he spent his final season in 1990 as a tight end for the Cleveland Browns before retiring for good.
Rouson traveling to North Carolina this summer to be a guest speaker at the McMichael Youth Football Camp that took place at the end of July. It was a fun time for the kids who were learning some football skills, as they got a chance to hear from one of the game’s former greats.
