NFL Hall of Famer Mike Munchak will be the featured speaker for the Lawrence County Penn State Alumni Chapter Spring Banquet that is happening next month at the New Englander Banquet Center on Wilmington Road. The event will take place at 6:30 p.m. on May 10, as the first speaker is scheduled to hit the stage at 7:30 p.m. after a buffet dinner. Tickets to get in are just $30 per person and are available for purchase at Bucky’s Barbershop at Westminster Plaza. Munchak will likely share stories from his career in the NFL as both a player and a coach and give a few words of inspiration as well.
The Scranton, Pennsylvania native started playing football from a young age and went on to play the sport at Penn State University. He ended up entering the 1982 NFL draft where he was selected in the first round as the 8th overall pick by the Houston Oilers with whom he played with for 5 years until 1993. From that point on Munchak became a coach and got to work with several teams including the Houston Oilers, Tennessee Oilers, Tennessee Titans, and Pittsburgh Steelers where he still is today. The nine-time Pro Bowl champion was elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2001 and into the National Polish-American Sports Hall of Fame in 2003.
