NFL legends Warren Moon and Andre Reed were announced as speakers for this year’s Rose Bowl Speaker Series that is kicking off on October 26. The event is hosted by Sports 1 Marketing, an Irvine-based company that has brought the speaker series back to their area. The doors open at 10:00 a.m. that morning and a lunch will be served until roughly half past noon. The sports and celebrity panel will begin about ten minutes until 1 p.m. and will last until about 1:30 p.m. Tickets to the function can be purchased in advance from the Sports 1 Marketing website, and they are expected to run out, so be sure to purchase them early if you plan on attending. The former NFL stars will share stories and memorable moments from their exciting careers, as well as what they learned about practicing adversity and resilience over their lives. Admission to the Rose Bowl Speaker Series also includes a VIP tour of America’s Stadium.
Moon is a native of Los Angeles, California and got his start in football during his teenage years while attending Alexander Hamilton High School. He ended up attending West Los Angeles College for a few years where he was a record-setting quarterback for the team. Despite how successful he was in college, Moon went undrafted in the NFL, so he decided to sign with the Edmonton Eskimos of the Canadian Football League. In effect, he won the offensive Grey Cup Most Valuable Player in 1980 and 1982. He ended up getting a spot in the NFL by 1984 when he joined the roster of the Houston Oilers, with whom he stayed with for nine years Prior to retiring, Moon also played with the Minnesota Vikings, Seattle Seahawks, and Kansas City Chiefs.
Andre Reed is a native of Allentown, Pennsylvania and he started playing football while attending Dieruff High School and helped the team go to the EPC tri-championship. He ended up attending Kutztown University of Pennsylvania where he got national attention for his abilities in speed and durability, and eventually entered the 1985 NFL Draft where he was selected in the 4th round by Buffalo Bills. Reed stayed with the team for eight years before doing two brief terms with the Denver Broncos and Washington Redskins just prior to his retirement in 2000. Afterwards, the 7-time Pro Bowl athlete appeared on a few sports-related TV shows such as ESPN2’s “First Take” and served as an analyst on NFL on Fox.
