Paralympic cyclist, sit-skier and mountain climber Muffy Davis recently spoke at this year’s Community School commencement ceremony that happened on June 4th in Sun Valley, Idaho. The graduation began at 1 p.m. that afternoon and 43 students received a certificate of completion. Davis stood up in front of the audience and shared her story of strength and inspiration, as she was able to overcome so many different obstacles to get where she is today. The athlete was able to relate to the student body on an even deeper level as she herself is a former student of Community School and also graduated from a local high school. It was a very memorable and fantastic speech by Davis.
Davis is a four-time Winter Olympic medalist and a three-time gold medalist as of the London Summer Olympics in 2012, and she is also the Guinness World Record holder for medals won in a single Paralympics event. At the age of 16 she was in a terrible skiing accident that left her paralyzed from the chest down, but this didn’t stop her from continuing to compete in the sports that she loved. She is a very determined woman, as most Olympic athletes don’t tend to focus on both winter and summer events yet she has mastered Paralympic skiing and hand cycling. In her spare time, Davis is a avid traveler and goes to several places a year to give motivational speeches.
Davis recently went back to a school she used to attend in Idaho to give the commencement speech for this year’s seniors at Community School. They were honored to have her there and it was a fun-filled event for everyone.
