Edwin Moses Speaking FeeFormer track and field star and Olympic gold winner Edwin Moses was a featured speaker at this year’s 63rd Annual Thoroughbred Racing Conference that took place in Saratoga Springs. The event was hosted by The Jockey Club at the Gideon Putnam hotel where it has occurred every year since 1952. At the conference there were round table discussions on issues facing the sport of racing and it is just an overall good opportunity for leaders and employees in the industry to connect and network. It was an honor for The Jockey Club and citizens of Saratoga Springs to have Moses come to town as they found his speech to be motivating and inspiring.

The Dayton, Ohio native earned a academic scholarship to Morehouse College in Atlanta where he majored in engineering and physics during his training for the university track team. He practiced especially hard on his own time using public facilities, and eventually qualified for the US team to participate in the 1976 Summer Olympics in Montreal. In an amazing turn of events he broke his own world record just one year after setting one. He brought home two gold Olympics medals and one bronze, two gold World Championships medals, three gold IAAF World Cup medals, and one gold Goodwill Games medal throughout his career. In addition to that, Moses was also pivotal in helping sports administrators develop a number anti-drug policies and drug testing systems.

Moses spoke at this year’s Annual Thoroughbred Racing Conference in Saratoga Springs to discuss some of the issues in the racing industry with other professionals, and to help workers in that field network and connect over the course of the event.
