Olympic gold medalist Shawn Johnson has been selected to be a part of the Southeast Missouri State University’s Speaker Series for 2016-2017. The event will take place on February 6th and is set to begin at 7:30 p.m. in the Show Me Center. Tickets to get into the lecture cost just $10, but this talk will be open to the public who are more than invited to attend. It is also important to note that members of the university’s community such as staff or students will be given a free ticket, but they are required to pick it up at the venue’s box office.
The Des Moines, Iowa native attending Valley High School while practicing gymnastics for several hours per week. She became a part of Team USA’s Olympic gymnastics team and competed in the 2008 Beijing games where she won a gold medal on the balance beam and three silver medals in other gymnastic events. In June of 2012, Johnson was facing some knee problems and ended her comeback for the 2012 Olympic Team.
Johnson will be traveling to Missouri later on this month to participate in this year’s speaker series for both locals and MSU community members alike. Students and staff will be free, but general public attendees will have to pay $10 for admission to hearing this Olympian’s talk. She is expected to discuss her life and career, as well as a first-hand description of what it’s like to endure and conquer at one of the world’s most prestigious athletic events.
